We were brought on board to manage the vegetation for a large group of well sites in Alberta. The total number of well sites was over 600, across both forested and cultivated lands.
Because of the large number of sites, and the variation in land properties and weather across the area, our challenge was to proactively plan for, treat and monitor each site with equal care and precision, despite the fact that there was no uniform set of needs between them.
The project required us to plan for different conditions, all while keeping in perspective the project as a whole, and to improvise at times when unexpected issues specific to each location arose. We started with a well-informed plan, and adapted it as challenges and site-specific needs were identified. Over the years, we’ve learned that the best plans are adaptable and flexible – being able to make adjustments on the fly allowed us to stay on time and on target.
A project this large comes with administrative challenges as well. Before we could even begin our work we had to secure Safe Work permits for over 600 sites requiring an organized approach. Fortunately, here at Plateau, we have team members dedicated to project management and know compliance processes well, so we were able to secure permits in a timely manner.
This project is a perfect example of the need for plans that are structured and informed, but flexible enough to accommodate the inevitable changes and challenges that come with the environment.
